On October 21, 2026, researchers disclosed two critical flaws in PHP itself, nicknamed PHP2Shell. They let an attacker run code on a server without ever logging in, and they live in PHP, not in any one website's code. Early attacks have already been reported. If your website or web app runs on PHP, it's worth checking now.
Patched releases are 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35. Older versions, including PHP 7, need to move to a patched release or a vendor-backported fix.
